Write that Essay!

Everybody in their lives has endeavored to create a good essay and has realized that investing your energy to make decent writing isn't in every case simple and quick enough. You can lose and invest a ton of energy simply sitting with one single paper. In this way, composing can be confusing and challenging since not many of us are productive authors. Nonetheless, the more we find out about essay writing, the less startling composing can be. In this way, as a matter of first importance, we should think about the structure of the paper. Just like our flesh, the paper has its skeleton too.

Structure of Essay

When studying literature, some of you have heard the notion of Freytag’s triangle, which means that every plot should have opening, climax and final. Like in literature, an essay has also components that can be compared to this structure. The initial part of the essay is known as an introductory part. Another main part is the body of the essay, climax. And the last one is the conclusion. So, literature knowledge helps a student understand a bit about the writing process.

Introductory Part or Introduction

The first part is known as the introduction. Here you get the attention of the reader. It is important to start with something catchy. Thus, many people call the initial sentences of the introduction the ‘hook’. The other important part of the introduction is a thesis statement. You can call it the heart of an essay since your clear position is stated with this statement. When stating your thesis, it is important to mention the reasons for your positions (it is not always required by the small-sized essays). The reasons for your essay will serve as the roadmap for the reader.

Body Part

The main part of your writing is your body paragraphs. These paragraphs are the main places where the arguments or reasons are explained. In the paragraphs, you can use:

  • analogies to make arguments more convincing,
  • examples or anecdotes to support your main arguments,
  • numbers or statistics (numbers always persuade the reader),
  • contrasting/comparation techniques.

Each body paragraph should start with a topic sentence, a sentence that indicates and hints its reader about what the following paragraph would be. The number of body paragraphs depends on the assignment requirements. There are no strict limitations on the number of paragraphs, but in terms of relative size, they should be evenly distributed.

Conclusion Part

The easiest part of every essay is the part where you summarize everything. In the introduction part of each essay, you should move from general information to your standpoint, but in conclusion, it is vice versa. And generally, the initial part of the conclusion is the restatement of the thesis statement.

Technical Parts of an Essay

After understanding the structure of the essay, it is important to know the technical stuff related to writing. Of course, technical part requirements of your essay may differ from one course to anothe. There are several main key points to keep in mind:

  • spacing/indentation of the papers,
  • using proper transitions,
  • using proper grammar and vocabulary,
  • making proper referencing to avoid plagiarism,
  • using proper punctuation.

Of course, there can be additional technical requirements, but those described above are the basic ones to keep in mind.
